Players in Final Fantasy XIV use Gil to purchase clothing, weapons, and furnishings for their characters as well as level up crafting and gathering classes and pay teleportation fees for fast travel across Eorzea. It is also used to repair or meld Materia when needed.
FFXIV features several small Gil sinks within core gameplay such as player houses, gardens and Free Company workshops; however, since free trial players cannot participate in them directly they must rely on the Market Board as their source of gil earnings.
Crafting
Gil is Eorzea’s main currency and essential to many aspects of daily life in Eorzea; you’ll need it for anything from purchasing gear that increases your iLvl, food and potions for sustenance, glamour items for your character as well as minions and mounts, and crafting. One effective way to acquire Gil quickly in FFXIV is through crafting.
Crafting is an effective way of earning ffxiv gil, since items produced through it are always in high demand. Unfortunately, however, crafting can take quite some time, and Market Board competition can be fierce among gamers as each tries to outbid others by selling cheaper materials.
Players can earn Gil through Levequests as another means of earning regular income. While these missions don’t generate as much profit per hour than crafting, completing them is both fun and rewarding.
Gathering
Players can collect items and sell them back to NPCs for Gil. This includes equipment dropped or stolen from monsters as well as treasure chest rewards; certain monsters even drop special loot that can fetch much higher selling prices than regular loot. Quests, missions and dungeons that award Experience points and Gil are another source of Gil; in addition to that there are daily and weekly challenges which reset regularly, with quests such as running Dungeons, killing enemies or collecting items being part of these challenges.
Gathering is an inexpensive and relatively straightforward way of making gil, especially at the start of a patch. But honing one’s skills at gathering can take time and expense if one wants to progress in this discipline.
Combat classes have access to some reliable ways of making ffxiv gil, such as FATEs, Duty Roulettes and Allagan Tomestones. Furthermore, players can earn Gil from hunts and challenge logs available within the game.
Retainer Ventures
Retainers can engage in various ventures to earn you f14 gil and items. Their gear determines their ability to complete each endeavor successfully – for instance, Disciples of War can acquire Disciples of Magic items but not vice versa).
Unlock retainer ventures by completing the level 17 main scenario quest, “An Ill-Conceived Venture”, available in all three great cities (Limsa Lominsa, Ul’dah and Gridania). Each city features an NPC that you can speak with about ventures near its Market Board – speaking with him or her will unlock retainer ventures for use.
To send their retainers on an adventure, players must pay them with special venture tokens that can be obtained by completing levequests or tribal quests or purchased with Grand Company Seals or Allied Seals. Each venture takes a set amount of real time to complete and will yield items and experience as rewards; Quick Exploration provides the fastest and cheapest type of adventure while yielding results independent of class.
